DEC Receives Award of Excellence upon his “retirement”

At the recent hamfest held in Springfield an Award of Excellence was presented to Dean Bickford K0PHI upon his “retiring” as District D DEC for the past 18 years. Ken Baremore  W0KRB took over for Dean who had recommended as his replacement. Dean will stay on and remain the EC for Stone County. I am sure that his wealth of knowledge and experience will be called upon in the future. Please share in your congratulations to Dean for his outstanding service to his community.

SEC thanks everyone for support in the Ice Storm event.

I would like to thank everyone for their show of support during the ongoing response to the Ice Storm that we had last week in the south east part of the state. I have been in contact with Larry Ford N0RIC the District EC. One of the main reasons we as the amateur community were not heavily involved was due to the infrastructure of cell phones and normal telephone service not being disrupted on a wide scale. Larry reports that power is being slowly restored, however it may still be up to a week for most of the customers to be back on line. We have some lessons learned from this and when the normalcy is restored I will compile and share with the membership. I do appreciate the stations that contacted me to see if assistance can be provided, not only within the state but the surrounding states that were affected.

SEC addresses Missouri membership

Happy 2009 to the Missouri ARES membership! I wish that everyone has a safe, healthy and Happy New Year. To start off the new year on a good note I have sent out a SEC letter which talks about where we have been, where we are today and goals laid out in a three year plan. All DEC’s have this document with instructions to forward this on down to the EC’s who in turn will make sure that every member in their group has the document. This letter was also sent out as a courtesy to the SEC’s from the surrounding states, leadership officials for civil air Patrol, Red Cross, Salvation Army and the MARS program. This is to show that we are open to using all resources to augment our plan and to become a resource if needed by these organizations. My main goal is to avoid duplication of effort. If you need to see a copy of the document you can go here.
